Intercom Articles alternatives
On 15 June 2026, Salesforce signed a definitive agreement to acquire Fin, the company formerly called Intercom, for about $3.6 billion. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027. The announcement is about Fin's AI agent and does not mention the Help Center, Articles or the Messenger. Nothing has been announced about those products, and nothing about them has changed yet.
If your help content lives in Intercom Articles, now is a good moment to check what you could take with you, whether or not you plan to move.
What you can take with you
Articles, through the API. The Articles API lists, retrieves, creates and updates articles, including drafts and versions. It authenticates with a workspace access token, so calls run server-side. Intercom's own documentation describes exporting public articles through this API. Rate limits are not the constraint: 10,000 calls per minute per app is far more than exporting a help center requires.
Reusable content, through the preview API. Intercom now has Dynamic Content: a piece of text written once and referenced from several articles, either as an inline value inside a sentence or as a block of its own. Its documentation says it "is in open beta and may not be available in every workspace yet". A value can differ per brand and per language, and the reader gets the first one that exists in this order: their brand in their language, their brand in your default language, no brand in their language, no brand in your default language. Renaming one does not break the articles that use it. The preview version of the API lists, creates, retrieves, updates and deletes these content snippets, so this part of your help is now exportable too.
Older snippets, by hand. For Knowledge Snippets an Intercom staff answer in its community forum states that there is no public API for listing them. If those hold answers your AI agent relies on, copy them out yourself.
What the help center allows
The Help Center is hosted by Intercom, on its domain or yours. According to Intercom's documentation, it "does not support embedding forms, iFrames (inline frames), or custom HTML in articles or pages". Articles are identified by IDs that Intercom assigns. To fetch an article from your own app by a key of your own, you keep a table that maps your keys to Intercom's IDs and call the API from your server.
Dynamic Content changes what you can reuse, not where it is resolved. A value or a block is written once and appears in every article that references it, in the Help Center, the Messenger and Fin's answers. It is a piece of an Intercom article. What it is not is a help topic your own application asks for by an address you chose, rendered by your own components: that remains a request you build on top of the Articles API, with your own mapping table.
When staying makes sense
If you use Intercom's inbox and Fin, the help center is part of what makes Fin work, because Fin answers from your articles. Moving them elsewhere takes that source away from it. In that case the sensible step is to keep a current export and wait for what Salesforce announces.
